Within the broad set of events surrounding the formation of the department of Valle, asan autonomous political and territorial entity, in April 1910, the public debate held a
central place by newspapers in the provinces concerned about the advisability of dividing
the Cauca department. This text seeks to delineate the contours and shapes that reached
this debate by showing how the proposed separation found standing in public opinion.
